In “Jonathan Park and the Wilderness Express,” the Creation Response Team is trying to find a missing scientist in the wilderness of Alaska. Along the way they discover God’s creative imagination in making all of the varieties of animals. Now your family can live a similar real adventure as you travel to a local zoo, and celebrate the imagination of our Creator!

Purpose

To see and learn about God’s wonderful design as you visit a local zoo.

Planning

  • Your family will need to set aside a day for this adventure.
  • Call ahead to find out the hours of operation and admission fees at your local zoo.
  • Pack a lunch, or make plans to buy lunch while you are there.
  • If you own the Jonathan Park Study Guides, bring them with you. Use the Study Guide Animal Index for creation and design information on several of the animals that you’ll see at the zoo. If you do not own the guides, download and print a copy.

Activity

  1. Listen to Jonathan Park and the Wilderness Express* – Part I & II (possibly in the car on your way to the zoo).
  2. Upon arriving at the zoo, explain to your family how God programmed each animal with the ability to adapt and vary. There is a section about this subject titled, “Variation in Animals” on page ? (we’ll need to add this page number when study guide #3 is complete) of Study Guide #3 - The Winds of Change. To download it from the internet, click here (we will need to add this link once the new Study Guide is placed on our site)
  3. Spend a fun day together at the zoo. You may want to make a game out of asking your family to name design features that they can identify for each of the animals. Make sure to stop the exhibits of the animals mentioned in the Study Guides. Use the information as you talk about variations, design features, or how they relate to the creation/evolution debate. Make sure to give glory to God for His creativity displayed in each animal.
  4. After sitting down to lunch, you may decide to lead your family in a devotional.

* You can purchase the CDs or cassettes from the Jonathan Park Web store. If you own the study guide, you may also spend time learning the scientific discoveries that support this adventure. Those study guides can also be downloaded free.
