In Jonathan Park and Destination Moon, the Creation Response Team is testing their abilities as they battle it out against famous celebrity, Pearce Davis, to remind America of the amazing journey to the Moon. In this real adventure, your family will take a turn at exploring the geography of the Moon!
To celebrate Gods creativity in making the moon.
- Set aside an evening to spend with your family. It would be best if it was on the night of a full moon. Find out when there will be a full moon.
- If you dont own binoculars or a telescope, you will need to borrow or rent one. You can find rentals on the internet, or check with your local home school group, astronomy club, or astronomy store.
- Locate a site in which you will take your family to view the moon. It should be a dark, safe area in which there isnt a lot of light interference from the city. Your local astronomy store, astronomy club, college, or planetarium might be able to suggest a place.
- Printout a map (possibly one for each of your family members) showing the geological formations found on the moon.
- You may also like a map of the Apollo landing sites
- Pack a picnic dinner to enjoy before looking into the telescope.
- Listen to Jonathan Park and Destination Moon – Part I, II & III * (possibly in the car on your way to and from your viewing site).
- Once you arrive at your viewing site, start by having a picnic dinner with your family.
- During your picnic, you can lead them in a family devotion.
- As it gets dark, take turns looking through the binoculars or telescope at the moon. See how many formations you can identify, and then check them off on your moon map. You can work together as a family to check as many off of one map as possible, or make a competition with each member checking as many as possible on their own map (take turns looking through the lens) Ð depending on which you think your family would enjoy most.
* You can purchase the CDs or cassettes from the Jonathan Park Web store. If you own the study guide, you may also spend time learning the scientific discoveries that support this adventure. Those study guides can also be downloaded free.
